STILLWATER — Michael Zurlo, Republican candidate for Saratoga County Sheriff, released a statement today regarding the recent arrests made under the new New York State SAFE Act made public today in news reports.
“As a candidate for Saratoga County Sheriff, I stand with current Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple and Saratoga County Sheriff James Bowen and view, as it is written today, the new New York State ‘SAFE ACT’ as unconstitutional,” Zurlo said in the statement. “The new law infringes on many of our constitutional freedoms as Saratoga County residents and should not be used to target law-abiding citizens. As it stands today, I encourage our legislative representatives to seek full repeal of this law.”
Zurlo recently received the unanimous committee support from the Stillwater, Mechanicville, Milton, Wilton and Corinth Republican Committees.
Zurlo was born and raised in the City of Mechanicville. He began his law enforcement career in 1974 with the Mechanicville Police Department before transitioning to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department, where he rose through the ranks of patrol officer, Sergeant, Investigator, Lieutenant, and Senior Criminal Investigator.
Zurlo recently stepped down as the Stillwater Town Judge to run for the office of Saratoga County Sheriff. For information, visit www.ZurloforSheriff.com.
