Jane A. Melander

BALLSTON SPA — Jane A. Melander 55, passed away May 30, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Dansville, NY on January 5, 1959, she was the daughter of Robert and Nancy Prentice. She was a graduate of Ellicottville High School. After growing up in Western New York, she eventually relocated to Ballston Spa where she met and married the love of her life, Jeff Melander.

She was a certified nurse’s aide at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa for several years. Jane enjoyed traveling with her husband and together they vacationed in Hawaii, Maine, Georgia, and Cape Cod. Each winter they made their annual trip to Florida.

Jane is survived by her husband, Jeff Melander; her parents, Robert and Nancy Prentice; brothers, Donald Prentice (Pam), Kevin Prentice (Sandy), and Dean Prentice; sister, Joyce Telaak (David); mother-in-law, Linda Melander (Jack McLaren); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, June 22 from 1-4pm at Linda and Jack’s home on 477 Franklin Street, Ballston Spa.

    Jane worked the night shift at Maplewood Manor and was a wonderfully caring and dedicated nursing assistant. At times, I worked 11-7 as well and would see her gently taking care of the residents on her rounds. A lovely woman. Sharon Zavadil
