The Saratoga County Historical Society has received a $16,859 grant to renovate a space at the Brookside Museum.
The Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust provided the funding, which will be used to renovate storage space for the historical society’s costume and textile collection. It’s part of a larger project to upgrade the second-floor collections storage that also includes photograph, archive and library collections housed at Brookside Museum, located at 6 Charlton St.
Once completed, the space will be named The Alfred Z. Solomon Costume and Textile Storage. Gayle King, executive director of Saratoga County Historical Society, said the group is thrilled to receive the support.
“We have more than 35,000 photographs, artifacts, textiles, books and documents in our collection documenting nearly 400 years of Saratoga County history,” she said in a statement. “The need for increased collection storage space and updated storage housing units is essential to the continued superior collections management standards we uphold.”
The grant comes as the historical society starts 2017 with a new focus on leading Saratoga County in the preservation of local history.
“Our goal is to inspire a shared vision to keep history alive for all to explore,” King said.
