Village of Ballston Spa Postmaster expects relief in September
BALLSTON SPA – If you have been experiencing delays in your mail delivery in the Village of Ballston Spa, you are not alone. Many village residents have reported not getting their mail until as late as 5 or 6 p.m.
Ballston Spa Postmaster Joe Amash said it was a combination of two things: vacation time and losing two carriers to other stations.
“We have three carriers who are covering four routes in the village,” Amash said. “They have to do their own routes, plus one-third of the fourth route.”
Amash hoped that people will be patient, and promised that things will be back to normal by Sept. 9.
“If we have to deliver at 10 p.m., that’s what we’ll do, but you will get your mail,” Amash said. “We’ve got the carriers working eight or nine hours a day.”
Amash said that the station has also been trying to hire two more carriers on a part-time basis, but has run into problems during the hiring process.
“We’ve been looking for six to eight months,” Amash said. “The hiring process is hard. We had four orientation sessions and no one showed up.”
Amash feels confident that they have finally found someone who will start in September and hopes to get another part-time person soon. He said they will cover for such things as vacations and other time off. He hopes that will relieve the delays.
June Murphy, a resident in Doubleday Woods, is not so sure about that.
“Our mail is later and later every day,” Murphy said. “It’s really inconvenient for us to keep running back and forth, usually the service has been very good, but lately it’s been terrible.”
Only time will tell if the residents in the village see a more timely delivery of their mail.
