Friends of the Kayaderosseras is hosting its annual spring cleanup day of access points and other lands along the Kayaderosseras Creek on Saturday, May 7, 2016.
The group conducts cleanups of some of the public access sites along the Kayaderosseras Creek and its tributaries twice a year. This season, volunteers will clean up 10 sites and trail improvements along the creek. Maps and transportation to the sites will be provided, but volunteers are needed.
Volunteers will meet at the Kelley Park pavilion in Ballston Spa at 9 a.m. May 7. Lunch will be provided for volunteers at 12:30 p.m. in the park.
Volunteers are reminded to wear weather- and task-appropriate clothing, such as long pants, long-sleeved shirts, boots and a sturdy pair of work gloves, preferably leather.
Conservation Director Blue Neils observed that with several years of effort, the creek-side environment is showing signs of progress.
“As we steward this resource and these sites, the other visitors to the creek are taking notice and leave less and less trace, each year,” he said in a press release. “Our goal is to have everyone understand what a precious resource the Kayadeross is, to all of us, and to treat it with the respect and care it deserves. We would not be disappointed if The Friends never had to hold another clean up again.”
Neils has scouted the creek and found signs of new trash and illegal dumping, but, he said, “We are winning the battle.”

BALLSTON SPA — On Saturday, April 23, 2016, the Ballston Spa Rotary Club organized a community cleanup day in the Village of Ballston Spa.
