BALLSTON SPA-John R. DeMartino, 69, passed away on Wednesday, May 29. John served as a deputy with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department in 1971 and was promoted to sergeant in 1976. He graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA and was promoted to investigator in 1978. Retiring from the Sheriff’s Department in 1999, he was elected Saratoga County Coroner in 2000, and held this position until his death. He was known to visit Medbery Barbershop in Ballston Spa at least three times a day, and was the owner and operator of the Sweat Shop on Milton Ave., Ballston Spa. Survivors include his wife, Dale A. DeMartino; his children, Leah (Bob) DeMartino-Kane, Johnna (Eric) DeMartino-Guido, Ronald Duell, Melody Scaia, Brandie (Carlos) Scaia-Calderon, and Chris (Steph) Ward; his grandchildren, Abby Ward, Cheyenne Ward, Danitra Calderon, Scaia Calderon, GiGi Guido, Robert Kane and the late Noelle Johnsen; siblings, Mary (Wally) Zielnicki, Junior & Shirley DeMartino, Bobby and Carol DeMartino, Donna Wilt; his in-laws and several nieces and nephews; his buddies, Jack & Lilly, and friends, Jim & David Hathaway. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to The Noelle Sarah Johnsen Memorial Scholarship Fund, 91 West Ave., Saratoga Springs.
