A member of the Ballston Spa School Board was arrested on grand larceny charges last week for allegedly filing paperwork claiming to be a licensed child care provider.
Nancy Fodera, a 14-year member of the school board was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 25, and charged with felony grand larceny, third degree and first degree offering a false instrument for filing, also a felony.
Fodera was charged with the two felonies for allegedly submitted a false form in 2010 to social services claiming she was a licensed child care provider. She was paid $6146.75 for those services, according to officials.
According to information from the district’s Web site Fodera was elected to serve on the Board of Education in 1997 and is currently serving her fourth term. Fodera has served as president of the Milton Terrace Parent Teacher Association.
She serves on the policy committee is on the community outreach committee and the youth awareness school committee. Fodera attended school in Ballston Spa and is a member of the graduating class of 1977. The Web site biography also states she has worked as a group family day care provider for 22 years.
Stuart Williams, district spokesman, said her arrest will not affect her position on the school board nor will her arrest have any effect on the students’ education or the way the district operates.
“We have not taken any action at this point,” said Williams, who said the district had recently learned of her arrest. He said since Fodera has not been convicted of any crime, the district did not plan to take any action yet to remove her from the board.
“We will continue to monitor it as it goes along,” said Williams, adding that the arrest would not impact any students or the way the district is run.
“It will not be affecting the schools or the school district in any way,” said Williams, who admitted the district has not had to deal with this type of issue in a number of years.
Fodera, who is also Malta Planning Board’s secretary, was arraigned in the town of Milton court and released in her own recognizance to appear at a later date.
