LATHAM– Colonel Patrick Center, a Ballston Spa resident, has been named Chief of Staff of the 10,500-member New York Army National Guard.
As Chief of Staff, Center will be responsible to Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York, for the day-to-day administrative management of the force.
Division of Military and Naval Affairs employee Bill Bennett has been awarded the agency’s Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his service as the agency responded to Hurricane Sandy, the agency announced in a press release.
Bennett, who is the agency’s deputy director of state personnel, played a key role in processing the $9 million paid to the more than 4,500 members of the New York National Guard who served during the state response to the storm in November. He volunteered to help the agency’s budget office process pay paperwork for the soldiers and airmen of the New York Army and Air National Guard.
His work was exemplary and he made an important contribution towards ensuring that Soldiers and Airmen were paid in a timely manner, his citation says.
While serving at the direction of the governor, members of the Army and Air National Guard are paid by the state instead of the federal government.
Bennett and his wife Debbie live in Rock City Falls with daughters Jessica and Rachel.
