The Ballston Spa Central School District’s Council of PTAs recently celebrated the 116th anniversary of the founding of the National Parent Teacher Association, or PTA. The district PTA leaders hosted a Founders’ Day celebration at the Saratoga Winery, where over 125 guests joined in celebrating the work of the PTAs for the children of Ballston Spa.
One of the highlight events honored those who have shown a strong commitment to the PTA and students in the school district through many years of service and support. The event included the specific recognition of school volunteers, teachers and staff from each of the district’s six schools.
Those honored this year included John Balet and Cathy Graichen (High School), Valerie Valla and Carol Brown (Middle School), Jerri Ernst and Michele Zavadil (Wood Road Elementary), Jolene Hansen and Pam Rossetti (Milton Terrace North Elementary), Mary Townley and Michelle Mahoney (Milton Terrace South Elementary) and Jodi Townsend and Christine Franco (Malta Avenue Elementary).
“The PTA Council is proud to have such a strong PTA and group of parents, staff and community members that support the children in the district,” the district said in a statement.
The event included representation from each of the school PTAs, administrators, teachers, staff, board of education members and parents. Joseph P. Dragone, Ph.D, superintendent of the district, thanked all of the PTA leaders for their commitment to the students in the district and specifically congratulated all of the recipients of this year’s recognition awards.
“Their collective efforts in the district are truly appreciated and are evidence of the district motto ‘Educating Everyone Takes Everyone,'” the district’s statement read.
The celebration event was catered by the Sunset Café and sponsored by many local businesses, including TCT Federal Credit Union, Vermont Pure, Shear Cuts, Northland Chimney, the Sunset Café, I Love NY Pizza, Kelly’s Mini Hotdogs, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County, 31 Bags consultant Christine Bouchard, local artisan Diedre Ballard, Lip Stick ‘n Lashes, Avon consultant Kathryn Buckley, Arbonne International consultant Kristen Dolan, Ballston Spa Boot Camp, Cupcake Mommy, and Scentsy Candles & Velata Chocolates.
