Local Write-In Candidate Hopes to Send Message to New York

October 14, 2010 by Ballston Journal

MALTA – A life-long resident of New York, Jim Nolan will be taking his chances at the polls in the upcoming elections after recently deciding to run as a write-in candidate for New York State Governor.

Nolan’s name will not appear on the ballot, however he is campaigning to send a message to Albany and the state legislature.

“I want to show New York voters that there’s other options besides your typical candidates,” Nolan said. “I represent all the people who are sick of the direction New York is going in. I may not have a chance in winning, but I want to show all the big shot politicians that New York voters have had enough,” Nolan said in a press release.

Nolan, along with his oldest son Mike and two other close friends of the
family, have used social media and word-of-mouth to spread the word about his campaign. Nolan’s campaign managers have been maintaining pages on Facebook, Twitter and running a Web site.

“We feel that social media is a way of connecting people together through common interests and we’re trying to do that through interfaces such as Twitter and Facebook,” said Media Director Andrew Butler. “We are trying to rally everyone together to show there’s a candidate out there who cares about the majority of New York voters.”

Though Nolan has been happy with the early success, he still believes his campaign is just getting started, according to his campaign managers. With just under four weeks left before the elections on Nov. 2, Nolan plans to continue to let his voice be heard through his social media pages and Web site.

“With so much concern over the current candidates for governor, many
people were telling me they had no intentions on voting,” Nolan said.
“It was an outrage, this country fought hard to have a right to vote and I want to be that other option for voters.”
