A national bank chain is taking the future of “smart” banking and bringing it to Saratoga County.

The Adirondack Trust Company announced it has added a new service that will allow their WebWise Online Banking customers to make check deposits using their smartphone or desktop scanner.

The bank is one of a few nationwide that currently offers this service, according to a statement from the bank.

Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer David Brown said the new service will offer a brand new way for customers to conduct financial transactions.

This smartphone service allows customers to use the camera function on their phone to take a picture of the check and have it electronically sent to the bank for processing. The smartphone app is available at the “iTunes App Store, Android Market and Blackberry App World,” according to information provided by the bank.

“We are excited about this new service and how it will benefit our WebWise Online Banking customers. It allows them the convenience and flexibility to deposit checks via their smartphone or using their scanner,” he said, “even customers who travel south for the winter can now easily make deposits while they are away.

The scanner service and the software running in the computer’s browser electronically submits the check for processing.

“We are very pleased with the number of customers who have already enrolled. It provides them a simple, fast and secure method for processing check deposits. There is no fee for this service and is available to any Adirondack Trust personal or small business checking account customer who has WebWise Online Banking access. The service is available, 24 hours a day, and seven days a week,” Brown added in a statement.

Founded in 1901 in Saratoga Springs, the bank has more than $900 million in assets and eleven branches, according to information from the bank. The Adirondack Trust Company is rated by Bauer Financial as a five-star bank for the period ending in September and Adirondack Trust offers” banking, trust, insurance, and investment services and originates real estate mortgages, both residential and commercial, and commercial business loans throughout its market area.”
