BALLSTON SPA — In addition to announcing the “District of Distinction” honors given to BSCSD, the Superintendent’s Report during last week’s school board meeting noted the success of the annual Scottie’s Closet event for clothing donations at the Middle School, and the continued success of the High School soccer team. The Scotties have reached the state regionals for the first time since the 1990’s, according to a school spokesman.
The board also approved 13 resolutions during the meeting, including the Environmental Club’s trip to Tapper Lake next week for the Adirondack Youth Climate Summit. The board also approved the initial steps required to begin the budgeting process for the next school year.
A cleaner employed by the district was fired by the board, for undisclosed reasons, and four employees (an aide, a cleaner, a teaching assistant and a bus attendant) resigned.
The board approved the temporary hiring of two school aides, a cleaner and a lifeguard, and the permanent hiring of two school aides and a groundskeeper, all for hourly pay rates determined by their job title. In addition, the board approved the hiring of on teaching assistant, for $21,204 per year, and the hiring of a mentor, though the salary was unlisted (the board’s agenda said only that the mentor’s salary will be determined according to the teachers’ union’s contract).
Thirty-one K-12 students were approved for placement in special education, as well as two pre-kindergarten students.
The High School Troupe will be performing “East of the Sun and West of the Moon,” an hour-long children’s play written, staged and directed by student members of the International Baccalaureate program, on November 13 and 14, the board noted.
