BALLSTON SPA-Twenty-two French students and two chaperones from Blanche-de-Castille High School in Le Chesnay, France recently arrived at Ballston Spa High School and spent 12 days with American host students and families.
The French students are in “seconde” which is equivalent to 10th grade in American high schools. They participated in a cultural and educational program during their stay which included visits to Albany, Lake George, the Norman Rockwell Museum and Hancock Shaker Village in Massachusetts, and Ndakinna Educational Center in Greenfield Center. The Rotary Club of Ballston Spa also organized a tour of the Village of Ballston Spa.
The students were “very impressed” with Ballston Spa High School and “the warm welcome they received” according to a press release from the school. The French students attended the BSHS Homecoming Dance with their American host students as well as visited several classes with them while in school. The American students and families said “au revoir” to their French students, and after spending two days in New York City, the French group returned home.
The exchange program continues in March 2016 when the American students from Ballston Spa will travel to Le Chesnay, France to spend 10 days with their French host students and families. Le Chesnay is located near Paris, very close to the city of Versailles.
While in France, the American students will experience “la vie française” by attending school and experiencing everyday life with their host families. Visits to Versailles, Paris, and the Normandy beaches are planned.
The BSHS students participating in the exchange include Meg Allen, Delaney Andersen, Julia Barnum, Julia Blake, Josh Busold, Gabriella Decker, Liz Devlin, Bryn Giambona, Rachel Giroux, Sloan Howard, Dylan Jacobs, Joe Luger, Jackson Martinez, Drake McDonough, Vince Miczek, Noelle Oiszewski, Sarah Panariello, Morgan Relyea, Emily Rodak, Izzy Rutkey, Maura Smith, and Riley Zink.
