Area Residents Earn Spots on RPI Dean’s List

TROY – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute named nearly 2000 students to the dean’s honor list for the Spring 2016 semester. The Dean’s Honor List recognizes students who attain a grade point average of 3.50 or better and have no grade below C.

The following local students earned this honor:

        • Christian Canham of Ballston Spa studies electrical engineering.
        • Caitlyn Gardiner of Ballston Spa studies engineering.
        • Keara Traylor of Ballston Spa studies biomedical engineering.

Ballston Spa Resident Graduates From Hofstra University

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Christopher Garofano of Ballston Spa graduated from Hofstra University in May, earning a Bachelor of Arts in global studies.

Mary Campbell Named To Dean’s List at Loyola University

BALTIMORE, Md. – Mary Campbell, of Ballston Spa, has been named to the spring 2016 dean’s list at Loyola University Maryland.

In order to qualify for the Dean’s List at Loyola, a student must achieve a minimum QPA of at least 3.500 for the term, provided that, in the term they have successfully completed courses totaling a minimum of 15 credits.

Local Residents Graduate from SUNY Oneonta

ONEONTA – Two local residents graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta on May 14.

      • Kristopher Tuna of Ballston Spa, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics.
      • Kelly McGrath of Malta, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.

Ballston Spa Residents Graduate from SUNY Delhi

DELHI – Two Ballston Spa residents graduated from the State University of New York at Delhi in May.

      • Wayne Van Valkenburgh III graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in construction management-design and building.
      • Aaron Westfall graduated with an Associate Degree in electrical construction and refrigeration

Local Residents Named to Dean’s List and Graduate from RIT

ROCHESTER – The following local residents made the dean’s list at Rochester Institute of Technology for the spring 2016 semester:

      • Michael Baumgarten of Ballston Spa, who is studying computer engineering.
      • Tyler Loewenstein of Ballston Spa, who is studying public policy.
      • Layla Petruzzelli of Ballston Spa, who is studying chemical engineering.
      • Andrew Wright of Ballston Spa, who is studying mechanical engineering.
      • John Zanet of Ballston Spa, who is studying biochemistry.

RIT celebrated its 131st academic convocation in May. Diplomas were distributed to graduates following the event at separate ceremonies held by each of RIT’s nine colleges and two academic centers. Local residents who graduated include:

      • Ryan Clark of Ballston Spa, who received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering technology from RIT’s College of Applied Science and Technology.
      • Alexandra Kambourelis of Ballston Spa, who received a Bachelor of Science in diagnostic medical sonography from RIT’s College of Health Sciences and Technology.
      • Layla Petruzzelli of Ballston Spa, who received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering.
      • Andrew Sovern of Malta, who received a Bachelor of Science in computing security from RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences.
      • Brian Woodard of Ballston Spa, who received a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering.

Alyssa Britton Earns Degree From Becker College

WORCESTER, Mass. – Alyssa Britton, of Ballston Spa, earned a degree from Becker College on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts during the college’s 228th commencement. Britton was part of the “Global Class of 2016,” the largest graduating class in the college’s history, and the first class to have global citizenship fully integrated into the college curriculum for four years and made a requirement for graduation.

Local Residents Graduate from SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO – Two local residents completed their baccalaureate studies at the State University of New York at Oswego in spring 2016 and were recognized during the commencement in May.

      • Kelsey Hurley of Ballston Spa graduated with a degree in childhood education.
      • Sarah L. Traver of Ballston Spa graduated with a degree in marketing.

Wayne Van Valkenburgh III Achieves Dean’s List at SUNY Delhi

DELHI – Wayne Van Valkenburgh III of Ballston Spa, has been cited for academic achievement for the Spring 2016 semester at the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi.

Van Valkenburgh III, who majors in construction management, design and build, has qualified for the dean’s list. To qualify for the SUNY Delhi dean’s list, a student must have an academic average of 3.50 or higher within the semester.

Andrea Killian of Ballston Spa Named to Dean’s List at Lafayette College

EASTON, Pa. – Andrea Killian of Ballston Spa has been named to the 2016 spring semester dean’s list at Lafayette College for outstanding academic achievement. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must achieve at least a 3.60 semester grade point average on a scale of 4.0

Ballston Spa Resident Presents Engineering Project at Western New England University

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Matthew Gifford of Ballston Spa, is among more than 175 students who presented their Freshman Innovation Project at the Western New England University College of Engineering’s 2016 Emerging Expo held on the university campus. Gifford’s project is entitled “Tidal Wave: Wave Goodbye to Pool Problems”.

Freshman Product Innovation projects allow students to gain experience and knowledge at an early stage of their education with innovation and design of a new product. It helps students to better understand what they can expect during the next few years as an engineering student at Western New England University and gives them a chance to showcase their talents at the very beginning of their educational journey. Showcasing their work alongside the Senior Design projects gives first year students something to aspire to and allows them to gain invaluable knowledge from their peers.

Kayla Najafipour Named to Dean’s List at MCPHS

BOSTON – Kayla Najafipour of Ballston Lake, has been named to the spring 2016 dean’s list at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Najafipour is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy and will graduate in 2017. The Dean’s List recognizes those students with a full-time course load who have achieved outstanding scholarship with a 3.5 GPA or higher for the academic term.

Malta Resident Earns First Academic Honors from Clark University

WORCESTER, Mass. – Cassandra Grandeau of Malta, has been named to first honors on the dean’s list for the spring 2016 semester at Clark University. To be eligible for first honors, students must have a grade point average of 3.8 or higher.
