Academic Honors and Awards for Residents of Ballston Spa, Malta, Milton and Rock City Falls

Ballston Spa Students Enroll at SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO – More than 1,400 students have reserved places as freshmen at SUNY Oswego. Fall 2016 classes will begin Monday, Aug. 29. Students from the area include the following:

  • Noah T. Grenier, of Charlton Street, Ballston Spa, last attended Ballston Spa High School and intends to major in wellness management.
  • Michael T. McPartlin of Jovan Court, Ballston Spa, last attended Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School and intends to major in marketing.

Daniel Giroux Named to Union College Dean’s List

SCHENECTADY – Daniel Giroux, of Ballston Spa, NY, was named to the 2016 dean’s list at Union College.

Giroux is a member of the Class of 2018, majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

To be named to the Dean’s List, Union students must have a grade point average of 3.5 for the entire year and meet certain other requirements.

University at Albany Announces Spring Graduates

ALBANY – The University at Albany congratulates the more than 2,800 students who graduated in May 2016.

Students from thearea include:

  • Melanie McCormick, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in social welfare.
  • John Durden, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in social work.
  • Michela Paniccia, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in social work.
  • Christina Seahorn, of Ballston Spa, who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in digital forensics.
  • Adam Randall, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in anthropology.
  • Melissa Drum, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in chemistry.
  • Jonathan Ventra, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in English.
  • Samantha Pappalau, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in Spanish.
  • Sara Wolfe, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in Spanish.
  • Olivia Zeh, of Ballston Spa, who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in East Asian studies.
  • Evan Markson, of Ballston Spa, who graduated cum laude with a degree in business administration.
  • Shaun Donegan, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in curriculum development and instructional technology.
  • Gianni Spensieri, of Ballston Spa, who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in accounting.
  • Kelsey Fleming, of Ballston Spa, who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in biology.
  • Colin Lunde, of Ballston Spa, who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English.
  • Gloria Moran, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in public administration.
  • Sarah Cranfield, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in human biology.
  • Stefanie Nochisaki, of Ballston Spa, who graduated with a degree in public health.

University of New Hampshire names Dean’s List for Spring Semester

DURHAM, New Hampshire –  The following students have been named to the dean’s list at the University of New Hampshire for the spring 2016 semester:

  • Pamela Merriman, of Ballston Spa, earned highest honors
  • Megan Mottola, of Ballston Spa, earned high honors

Students named to the dean’s list at the University of New Hampshire  have earned recognition through their superior scholastic performance. Highest honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.85 or better out of a possible 4.0. Students with a 3.65 to 3.84 average are awarded high honors and students whose grade point average is 3.5 through 3.64 are awarded honors.

SUNY Cortland Names President’s List

CORTLAND – Kerri Hollowood, of Ballston Spa,has been named to the president’s list at  SUNY Cortland for the spring 2016 semester:

To be eligible for the president’s list students must be full-time and earn at least an A- in all courses.

Spring 2016 graduates of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

TROY – The following local students earned degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in May 2016:

  • Lauren Brady-Haskell, of Ballston Spa, earned a bachelor’s in electrical engineering.
  • Michael Dame, of Ballston Spa, earned a bachelor’s in Computer Science.

Local Resident Earns Degree From WGU

SALT LAKE CITY — Solomon Makwara, of Ballston Spa, received his Master of Business Administration in management and strategy from Western Governors University. The university held its 31st semi-annual commencement ceremony in Salt Lake City on July 16, 2016, and celebrated the graduation of more than 8,000 graduates.

At its commencement, the university awarded 4,944 undergraduate and 3,103 graduate degrees in business, information technology, K-12 teacher education, and healthcare professions, including nursing. Graduates reside in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, as well as Armed Forces personnel stationed overseas. Dell Loy Hansen, founder and CEO of The Wasatch Group, delivered the commencement address. Students who were not able to attend the ceremony in person were able to watch the event via live video stream on the WGU website.
