Gearing up for the Ballston Spa Holiday Parade

BALLSTON SPA – The village holiday parade and tree lighting is just a few weeks away, and the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association is seeking volunteers and donations for the annual community event.

The festivities will take place, Friday, Dec. 2. The parade steps off at 6:30 p.m., proceeding on Milton Avenue and ending in Wiswall Park on Front Street with Santa lighting the Christmas tree.  The parade has become a hometown holiday tradition, with fire trucks, floats, animals, kids and Santa parading down the main street of the village.

Once again this year, the parade will spotlight the Toys for Tots campaign, in partnership with the Ballston Spa Community Emergency Corps, Saratoga County Sheriff Department and U.S. Marine Corps.  Volunteers from these organizations will be on hand to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys from spectators along the parade route as well as at the tree lighting.  The 2016 Toys For Tots Princess is Safyre Terry, who is expected to attend the event.

The parade is a true community event so parade participants are welcome.  Organization, group or business that would like to take part in the parade that night are asked to contact Ellen Mottola at the BSBPA office at (518) 885-2772, or [email protected].

The parade headlines a holiday themed “First Friday“, Ballston Spa’s signature monthly event, which celebrates its 12th year in 2016.  Home to many unique shops, artist galleries, museums and restaurants, Ballston Spa pulls out the stops for December’s First Friday by filling the village with a merry atmosphere, according to organizers.  Ballston Spa High School singers and musicians from the school and Union Fire Company bands perform carols on the street corners. After lighting the tree, Santa Claus heads to Ballston Spa National Bank to visit with kids of all ages.

Churches and community groups also offer Christmas musical programs, bake sales and dinners during this weekend.  The BSBPA will partner once again with St. Mary’s School and the Eagle Matt Lee and Union Fire Companies for the annual breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 8 to 11 a.m.  At $5 per person and no reservations needed, the family event includes a pancake breakfast, crafts, kids’ activities, performances by local musicians and singers and a chance to chat with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Toys for Tots volunteers will also be there accepting donations.

The BSBPA encourages all Ballston Spa businesses, churches, schools and community groups with holiday themed events or activities happening between Friday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec.4 to contact the association with description, date and time of your event to be included in a holiday schedule of events which will be posted on the BSBPA website, Facebook page, promoted on social media and made available throughout the community.  You may send your information to:[email protected] or mail to BSBPA PO Box 386, Ballston Spa, NY or call (518) 885-2772.

Please submit any events no later than Thursday, Nov. 17.
