Ballston Spa Resident Involved in Fatal Collision

GREENFIELD – Two Ballston Spa residents were involved in a fatal collision here on Monday that left one woman dead.

Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Lake Desolation Road at approximately 7:56 p.m., Monday, April 10. Evidence at the scene indicated a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was travelling eastbound when it crossed the center line and struck a 2008 Ford Focus nearly head on, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Ford Focus, Rachel E. Cook, 27, of Greenfield, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, Dustin R. Barnes, 22, of Ballston Spa, sustained serious injuries and was flown to Albany Medical Center. A passenger in the pickup truck, Jennifer L. Cook, 28, of Ballston Spa, was transported to Saratoga Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit, according to authorities.

Also responding to the scene were the Middle Grove Fire Department, Porter Corners Fire Department, Greenfield Center Fire Department, Maple Avenue Fire Department, Jessup’s Landing EMS, Community EMS and Galway EMS.
