BALLSTON SPA – The Ballston Spa International Film Festival is accepting short film entries for its 10th annual festival to be held this summer.
Works from many genres will be accepted, including drama, comedy, animation, documentary. Films must range from five to 15 minutes and family friendly in nature. Submissions are due by Friday, May 5.
Film entries may be submitted online at https://filmfreeway.com/festival/BallstonSpaFilmFestival, or by DVD, which must play in a standard DVD player. DVDs must be mailed in with a completed application and entry fee.
The two-day festival kicks off Friday, Aug. 4. This event is free to attend and open to the public. Screenings are held each evening indoor at the Ballston Spa High School and outdoor at the Old Iron Spring Park in downtown Ballston Spa.
Every film submitted gets screened by the selection committee and chosen filmmakers will be notified Thursday, June 1. Awards will be presented in a variety of categories (with separate judging for young filmmaker), including prizes in Best New Film, Best of the Fest, Best Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Original Score.
Films are judged by a panel of Hollywood professionals. Past judges include the people behind such films as “Silence of the Lambs,” “Manchurian Candidate,” “Doc Hollywood,” “Any Given Sunday,” “True Lies,” “Rudy” and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Last year the Ballston Spa International Film Festival included films from more than 23 different countries, the Capital District and the U.S., by both amateurs and professional filmmakers. More than 500 attendees screened over 40 short films during the event.
