Police and Courts: July 6-12, 2017

The following items are police and courts records from the Ballston Spa Police Department, Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office and New York State Police.

Ballston Spa Police Department

Warrant: Robert E. Wells, 37, of Ballston Spa, was arrested Sunday, July 9 on a bench warrant out of Saratoga Springs and turned over to the Saratoga Springs Police Department.

New York State Police

Shoplifting: Michael Whelan, 28, of Rock City Falls, was arrested Saturday, July 9 and charged with petit larceny and resisting arrest.

Whelan was seen leaving the Lowe’s in Halfmoon with more than $850 of merchandise in a shopping cart and didn’t attempt to pay for the goods, police said. He was ordered to stop by police but continued to push the cart through the lot. After several commands Whelan allegedly attempted to flee the scene and was apprehended.

Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office

Burglary: Timothy P. Sims, 27, of Malta, was sentenced to six years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision.

Sims pleaded guilty earlier this year to burglary, second degree, for a crime he committed in Milton in March.

Burglary: Lenwood M. Savage, 35, of Hampton, pleaded guilty Monday, July 10 to burglary, third degree.

Savage committed the crime in Milton in July 2016.

Indecent materials: Jonathan J. Pantoja, 29, of Middletown, pleaded guilty Tuesday, July 11 to disseminating indecent materials to a minor, first degree, for an incident that occurred in Malta in February.

Failure to register: Rafael Brito, 21, of Ballston Spa, pleaded guilty Wednesday, July 12 to failure to register as a sex offender.

The incident occurred in Ballston in January.

Strangulation: Devon. M. Ostrander, 22, of Milton, was indicted Wednesday, July 12 on the following charges: strangulation, second degree; assault second degree; unlawful imprisonment, first degree; assault, third degree; criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation; menacing, second degree; and harassment, second degree.

The alleged incidents occurred in Stillwater in June.

Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office

Sexual abuse: Brian F. Jones Jr., 31, of Ballston Spa, was arrested Tuesday, July 11 and charged with sexual abuse, second degree; and forcible touching.

The alleged incident occurred in the early morning hours of May 31 at Jones’ home in the Barnes Mobile Home Park in Milton. He subjected a female acquaintance to unwanted sexual contact without her consent, according to investigators.
