Police and Courts: Aug. 17-23, 2017

The following items are police and courts records from the Ballston Spa Police Department, Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office and New York State Police.

Ballston Spa Police Department

Registration: David E. Szumowski, 51, of Altamont, was arrested Sunday, Aug. 20 and charged with driving with a suspended registration and driving a vehicle without insurance.

Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office

Possession: Martin J. Nichols, 42, of Rutland, Vermont, pleaded guilty Thursday, Aug. 17 to criminal possession a controlled substance, third degree.

Nichols admitted to possessing a half ounce of heroin when stopped by state troopers on I-87 in Malta last November.

Attempted arson: Jayme L. LaQue, 37, of Milton, pleaded guilty Thursday, Aug. 17 to attempted arson, third degree, for a crime he committed in Milton in April.

Weapon: John. L. Dowdell III was sentenced Friday, Aug. 18 to five years of probation.

Dowdell previously pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon, third degree, for an incident that occurred in Malta last October.

Failure to register: Ryan Petronis, 29, of Saratoga Springs, was sentenced Monday, Aug. 21 to one and a half years to four and a half years in state prison.

Petronis pleaded guilty earlier this year to the charge of failure to register as a sex offender for incidents that occurred in Saratoga Springs and Malta in 2016.

Intoxicated driving: Angela M. Burnside, 45, of Ballston Lake, pleaded guilty Monday, Aug. 21 to aggravated driving while intoxicated for a crime she committed in Ballston Spa in July.

Burglary: Laurie M. Cannelli, 52, of Ballston Spa, was sentenced Monday, Aug. 21 to 12 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for her conviction on the charge of burglary, second degree.

Cannelli was also sentenced to eight years in prison and three years of post-release supervision for her conviction of criminal possession of a controlled susbstance, fourth degree. The two sentences will run concurrently.

Cannelli, AKA, Laurie M. Kelleher, pleaded guilty to the charges in March.

Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office

Crash: Investigators responded to a report of a collision between a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of U.S. Route 9 and Sitterly Road in Halfmoon at 2:26 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 17.

A preliminary investigation found a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Kehli L. Peek, 27, of Mechanicville, was driving north on Route 9 when it passed a red light, resulting in a collission with a 2016 Toyota driven by Phyllis A. Jenkins, 70, of Ballston Spa, who was entering the highway from a parking lot.

Peek was taken to Albany Meidcal Center for treatment of serious injuries, while Jenkins was taken to Saratoga Hospital to treat minor injuries.

Forgery: Kile West, 22, of Ballston Spa, was arrested  Tuesday, August 22 and cahrged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, first degree.

West allegedly passed counterfeit currency at a Milton business.
