Tour de Cure finds new home in Ballston Spa

The American Diabetes Association was looking for a new home for their signature fundraiser, the Tour de Cure, and got it last night from the Village of Ballston Spa.

Village Trustees approved the application for the event to take place at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds, June 10, 2018.  The Tour de Cure features a number of routes that can be run, walked or cycled and is open to individuals, families and teams.  The all day event goes from 7 a.m. until approximately 8 p.m.

Mayor John Romano reported the event as the largest of its kind in the Capital Region and the eighth largest nationwide.  Monies raised fund awareness, education and support those living with diabetic conditions.

There are five cycle routes planned:  a 100 mile ride, a 62 mile ride, a 50 mile ride, a 30 mile ride and a 10 mile ride, in addition to a 5k walk/run. Some of the Village streets will be closed off and used for race routes.

“I think it’s a great thing, I support it.” said Romano.

The event was held previously at Saratoga Performing Arts Center however, construction at the site has interfered with the logistics of the event in addition to Live Nations concert scheduling according to Amelia Ambrosino, Development Manager of the American Diabetes Association in Albany . It {Tour de Cure] started out several years ago in Stillwater, and was held for a number of years at Saratoga High School.

“We wanted somewhere to call home, somewhere stable, a permanent home,” said Ambrosino.
