A former Village of Ballston Spa police officer was fired from two jobs last week after he was arrested for an alleged crime committed at the age of 12, according to a report in the Post-Star.
Cory Wagner, 27, lost his position with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department after only two days of employment and was subsequently terminated from a part-time position with the Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department.
State police have charged Wagner with a first-degree criminal sex act. Details of his arrest have not been made available. According to state Penal Law, first-degree criminal sex act involves sexual conduct arising from forcible compulsion or involving a victim who is incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless or is younger than 13 — 11 if the accused is younger than 18.
Ballston Spa Chief of Police David Bush declined to comment on the arrest, other than to say Wagner did a good job while he was on the force.
Wagner could face up to 25 years in prison under state guidelines.
