Chess Club Hosts Regional Tournament in Ballston Spa

BALLSTON SPA – The Third Annual Scholastic Chess Tournament was recently hosted by the Wood Road Elementary School Chess Club. Over 150 students and adults competed in the four-round tournament with more than twenty-five schools from all over New York State participating.

The hosts at Wood Road had over 25 participants and placed fifth overall.

The club is an afterschool enrichment activity for students in the Wood Road Elementary School. Club participants expressed appreciation to the Scholastic Chess Federation, Wood Road PTA, as well as to all of the parent volunteers who helped make the tournament a success.

Additional information on the tournament and how to get involved is available from local chess organization, Make The Right Move (MTRM). The group works with the Eastern New York Chess Association and offers opportunity for kids of all ages and levels of ability to enjoy chess learning and competition.

MTRM hosts 10 free tournaments a year around the Capital Region. Visit their website at http://www.chesstrm.org/ for details.
