Susan M. Shipski Groff

Susan M. Shipski Groff, 63, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. 

Sue is survived by her children Justin Shipski (Vicki), and Jessica Meaker (Paul); grandchildren Kenny “Doobear” and Isabelle; siblings Christopher Smith (Cathy), Daryl Smith (Sandy), Diane Petteys (Gene) and longtime friend John Shipski.

Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Sue’s life on Sunday, March 11 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at VFW Post 358, 68 E. North Street, Ballston Spa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Sue may be made to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, 6010 County Farm Road, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.

Robert J. Creifelds

Robert J. Creifelds, affectionately known as “Chief”, 87, passed away on March 4, 2018. He was born in Albany, NY on July 31, 1930. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps and was a Korean War Veteran. Bob worked for Niagara Mohawk for 40 years, retiring in 1992.

Bob joined the Eagle Matt Lee Fire Co No 1 in 1958, serving as Lieutenant, Captain and becoming Fire Chief in 1973, actively serving for 60 years. He was the Recording Secretary at the Firehouse for over 35 years. Bob served as Vice President, President and Secretary of the Hudson Mohawk Volunteer Fireman’s Association, Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association, and the Saratoga Co Volunteer Firemen’s Association. He was also a member of the Firemen’s Association of the State of NY, serving as a committee person and receiving a 60 year certificate at the Firemen’s Home in 2008.

Bob was a Charter Member of the Community Emergency Corp in Ballston Spa. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, proudly serving as Adjutant of the Spa Detachment. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, American Legion Post 234 in Ballston Spa and a past member of the Ballston Spa Lions Club.

Bob was a man of great faith. He was a communicant of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Ballston Spa and served as an usher for many years.

Bob was a pillar in the Ballston Spa Community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His daily routine started at Stewarts, then he joined the Breakfast Club at Union Fire Co, and off to check his mail at the Post Office, wearing his shorts of course. He enjoyed his Sunday dinner at the Ripe Tomato, and the rest of the week he dined at Sunset Café, Tresa’s, the Factory, Henry’s or the Burnt Hills Café (Jimmie’s).

He was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Anna Creifelds, infant brother William, his beloved wife Nancy, grandson Robert Curtis Harvey and sister Janet McAvoy.

Bob is survived by his daughters Donna Thomas and Jacqueline Harvey (Gary); grandchildren Heather Capitummino (Jeff), Timothy Thomas, Jr. (Stacey), Stefanie Drab (Joe), Richelle Williams (Jey) and Pamela Harvey; great grandchildren Nathan Tinney, Alexander Tinney and their father Andy Tinney; Christopher Thomas, Carter Thomas, Freddy Drab, Annie Grace Drab and Sadie Beth Drab; several nieces and nephews, and his caregivers Brenda and Norma.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 8 from 4pm to 8pm at St. Mary’s Church, 167 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 9 at 9:30am at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in Ballston Spa Cemetery.
