Updated Monday, June 4 at 1:30 p.m. — The deceased have been identified as William and Laura Wintermute, ages 61 and 64 respectively, from the Town of Ballston.

According to an updated press release from the Sheriff’s Office, the Wintermute’s were stopped eastbound on Route 67 waiting to turn into Finley Rd., the couple’s listed address, when they were struck from behind by a pick-up truck operated by Tyler Mort, 28, of Ghent, NY.  The collision forced their vehicle into the westbound lane and into the driver’s side vehicle operated by Jason Martindale, 39, of Moreau.

A fourth vehicle was thought to be involved however, it was determined to be a separate accident as a result of the driver swerving to avoid the initial collision.

Laura Wintermute was pronounced dead at the scene. William Wintermute succumbed to injuries a short time later at Saratoga Hopital.

The accident remains under investigation.
