Head-on motorcycle crash victim ID’d

BALLSTON – The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office has identified the Ballston Spa man who died in a head-on motorcycle crash on state Route 67 in the town of Ballston Sunday morning.

The motorcyclist, James P. Van Ness, 54, of Bath Street, Ballston Spa was riding his 2003 Harley Davidson westbound on state Route 67 at approximately 1:39 a.m. June 17 when he crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2005 Jeep Liberty operated by Delaney Brooks, 18, according to police. There was no evidence of impairment by Brooks.

The collision was just east of Curtis Lumber. Units from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Ballston Spa Fire Department and Malta Stillwater EMS were dispatched.

Van Ness was pronounced dead at the scene by Saratoga County Coroner Susan Hayes-Masa. Brooks was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

State Route 67 between Eastline Road and Brookline Road was closed for several hours. The incident remains under investigation by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit.
