Decorating theme: Gingerbread, holiday banners

BALLSTON SPA – The decorating theme this year in Ballston Spa is “A Village of Friends” and will feature oversized gingerbread ornaments and holiday banners.

The ornaments and banners are available now at the Ballston Spa Public Library — free of charge — for decoration by children of all ages.

All ornaments and banners are due back at the library by Nov. 3 and will be used to decorate the Village Christmas Tree and the streets of Ballston Spa during the holiday season.

“We want to expand on what we did last year and really make this year’s tree something special,” said local artist Mark Blech, who took the lead on designing the ornaments and banners. “And this year, not only are we decorating the tree, but after the great response from the banners we made for the birdhouse competition, we’re going to be making Christmas-themed banners. The elves have been working all summer to make this a project that everyone can participate in.

“When you’re done decorating ornaments and banners, just drop them off back at the library, it’s that simple, we’ll take it from there,” Blech added. “But don’t wait too long! Christmas is right around the corner. Join us in making this Christmas season full of Ballston Spa spirit and pride.”

One special note: make sure to use materials that are weather resistant. This means no hot glue, tempera paints or watercolor paints.

This community arts event is sponsored by the village of Ballston Spa and Curtis Lumber.
