Helping Families in need for Thanksgiving

BALLSTON SPA – The First Presbyterian Church is once again organizing an Ecumenical Thanksgiving Bag Ministry that provides items needed for a Thanksgiving dinner to families in need.

Families may sign up to receive a bag through our local food pantries. Signup starts Oct. 23, and lasts through Nov. 14.

Signups will be held First Baptist Church on Milton Ave. every Thursday, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and every first and third Tuesday, 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Christ Episcopal Church on West High St. every weekday except Thursday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and United Methodist Church on Milton Ave every Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

You can help by filling bags with items needed for Thanksgiving dinner. First Presbyterian Church recommends the following items:

  • $10 gift card to a local grocery store, OR an 8-14 pound frozen turkey
  • 2 boxes seasoned stuffing mix
  • 2 boxes instant mashed potatoes
  • 2 cans of gravy (no glass please)
  • 3-4 cans of vegetables
  • 1 can cranberry sauce
  • 1 boxed dessert mix

Bags and turkey’s can be delivered to First Presbyterian Church at 22 West High St. on Nov. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible if receipts are saved and then attached to a signed tax receipt that will be available on that day.

The church is also looking for volunteers to help at the First Presbyterian Church on ‘Distribution Day,’ Nov. 19 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Contact the church to volunteer.
