One of Ballston Spa’s best features, one that makes it such a great place to live and raise a family is its outstanding public school system. The Ballston Spa Central School District employs 600 workers and serves approximately 4,300 students from Pre-kindergarten through grade 12. In Spring 2012, the district launched a $57 million facilities renovation project. The district received tremendous support from the community. For proof, look no further than the Ballston Spa Education Foundation (BSEF)! This all-volunteer organization supports the mission of the district by raising and distributing resources for educational enrichment. They have raised and distributed over $350,000.
All schools offer the young scholar program beginning from grade 3. Children interested in music can participate in Band, Orchestra, and Chorus in grades 4-5. Those who choose to continue their musical careers in high school often perform at state and national levels!
Malta Avenue Elementary was recognized as National Gold Star No Place for Hate Schools by the Anti-Defamation League. Malta Avenue, Gordon Creek, and Milton Terrace have been named National PTA Schools of Excellence.
When it’s time to say goodbye to elementary school, all students in grades 6-8 attend Ballston Spa Middle School. It is one of only 27 schools throughout the state to have received the designation as a 2015 School to Watch by the New York State Education Department. These schools are recognized for “adhering to a rigorous set of criteria and are considered to be on a pathway of continuous improvement.” Parental involvement remains strong in middle school, and the school was recognized as a National PTA School of Excellence.
The final journey for most students begins in grade 9 at Ballston Spa High School, one of the district’s two high schools. They offer Advanced Placement courses and University in the High School classes for college credit. They also offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, a program of study that focuses on college and career readiness. In addition, the high school has received the following honors:

In addition to providing excellent academics, the high school offers a wide variety of athletics as well as extracurricular and co-curricular clubs and activities. Academic clubs include Business, Envirothon, Science Olympiad, Robotics, Biology and Odyssey of the Mind. The clubs have earned many regional and statewide awards.
Additional opportunities are available for students at the districts second high school, the Clean Technologies and Sustainable Industries Early College High School. Operated in conjunction with education and business partners, the school accepts students from 22 area schools districts. Students find themselves immersed into a state of the art learning environment, all while being fully enrolled in college. This gives them the opportunity to earn up to a whopping 25 college credits upon completing high school! In addition, the program prepares students for college and careers in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and advanced technology.

Malta Montessori school offers classes for toddlers (15 months), pre-school, and grades K-6. Founded in 2010, the school encourages creativity and operates on the principle of freedom within limits.
