Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley

July 31, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

$5 – $7
Carpe Diem Productions

The Carpe Diem Kids and the Summer Stars, both of Carpe Diem Productions summer camp programs, will be presenting Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids and The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr. in a double feature performance at the Round Lake Auditorium.

The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley celebrates the children’s book which was written 50 years ago. The book, which is still popular in elementary schools, allows children the opportunity to interact with pen pals. Children send a paper doll, named Flat Stanley, to someone anywhere in the world and the host then takes pictures of Stanley’s adventures. To encourage summer reading, Counselor in Training, Scott Brown and fourth grader Fiona Hughes visited second grade classrooms in Ballston Spa and handed out almost 600 copies of “Flat Stanley Goes Camping” to area students. The books were donated by McDonald’s, which recently featured the item as a Happy Meal giveaway. Students were excited and eager to read their Flat Stanley books and send their own Stanley to a pen pal. Students were encouraged to upload Flat Stanley pictures to a Facebook page that was created just for this event.

Carpe Diem Productions

Carpe Diem Productions summer camp attendees.

Carpe Diem Productions’ summer camp is open to children ages eight to 15 and teaches the basics of theater for a duration of four weeks. With over 60 children from Ballston Lake, Ballston Spa, Burnt Hills, Clifton Park, Glenville, Malta, Mechanicville and Round Lake, Carpe Diem Productions is gearing up to celebrate its fifth summer residency at the Round Lake Auditorium.

The production staff is made up of area high school students under the mentorship of Ballston Spa Middle School teacher and drama club adviser, Joe Shaver. The program allows campers who age out of the summer camp program to participate in a leadership development program which will lead to them directing their own shows the summer after they graduate. This year’s shows will be directed by Mark Camilli, along with music director, Marley Amico, choreographer, Emily Venturiello, and stage manager, Gillian Flannery, all recent graduates of Ballston Spa High School.

Matinee performances at 1 p.m. and evening performances at 7 p.m.
